In my acrylic works, I use colour relationships, value, patterning and substantial texture to create the impression of depth and light and to bring about the beauty and unusual effects of natural forms. My subject matter varies and is not as important to me as the mood or concept that I want to portray.
Paintings in my "HIGHLAND LIGHT" series, have been created from the images of our journey to Northern Scotland and my memories of the country's light and vast landscape.
The natural transparency and fluidity of watercolour allows me to highlight these features. Typically, I use 'negative' painting in my backgrounds to create depth and to emphasize the light.
More recently, I have been inspired by the landscape of western Newfoundland. A new series has begun!!
In both watercolour and acrylic, I work to simplify my ideas, allowing and encouraging the viewer to relate to their own perceptions, emotions and individual experiences.
Techniques change, different subjects inspire and new mediums will be used. My work continues to evolve.
My work is shown at:
GROTTO ARTWORKS, Merrickville, ON

The “fabulous complicity” that grew between myself and artist/potter marie paquette over the 12 years that marie lived south of Ottawa is still alive!! This time, both of us are getting ready for a new experience: in September, we will spend a few days in Ucluelet and Tofino trying to capture in watercolours, inks and drawings, the fluid essence of the west coast and its rain forest. We also hope to find time to explore the Beachcomber Peninsula –where marie lives- for a few more paintings
The VANCOUVER ISLAND COASTAL STUDIES will be on display –and for sale- alongside marie’s regular clay objects and brushwork. I will be present as a guest during the 3 days.
Please, note that as the paintings are created, some of them will be posted on our respective websites, on the studio tour website and on the Facebook page.
